Children’s Ministry
“Children’s Ministry” as we know it is an idea created by the modern church. Although Jesus Christ was extremely interested in children, He never taught that children needed a different type of ministry than adults. Rather, He instructed that we adults are to become more like children! We believe that ministry is one simple thing: leading people (of all ages) into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ–a relationship rooted in the word of God, resulting in a life led by the Spirit of God. Paul pointed to the true importance of children’s ministry when he wrote these words to Timothy:
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
–2 Timothy 3:14-15

Therefore, “Children’s Ministry” here at Calvary Chapel Sioux Falls is simply focused on these few things:
- Teaching the complete word of God in an age-appropriate way, with the end goal being children who can study the word of God on their own, and most importantly, become doers of the word and not hearers only (2 Timothy 3:16, 1 John 2:27, James 1:22).
- Leading children by example, living a life of simple faith in the power of the Holy Spirit, exhibiting Christ-likeness, obedience to the word of God in front of the children, telling this generation to come, “that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments” (1 Timothy 4:12, Galatians 2:20, Psalm 78:4, 7).
- Encouraging and discipling children to be active parts of the Body of Christ, stirring up love and good works, walking in the power of the Holy Spirit, and exhorting them to be salt and light and glorify God in this ever-darkening world (1 Corinthians 12:14-27, Hebrews 10:24, Matthew 5:13,16, 1 Thessalonians 4:1)

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
